D23 2026 Roundup: Magic Kingdom!

D23 has wrapped up for this year, so I’ve gathered all the latest news about the upcoming changes coming to Magic Kingdom!

Carousel Of Progress Update

The Carousel of Progress is getting a complete update!

Last year, it was announced that a Walt Disney animatronic would be added to the attraction. Now, it’s confirmed that he will star in the new introductory scene, inspired by the “Disneyland Goes to the World’s Fair” episode of Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color, where Walt first introduced the concept for the Carousel of Progress.

Currently, the Carousel takes guests on a journey through the 1900s, 1920s, 1940s, 1990s and the present day, but that’s about to change.

The new show begins in the 1960s, with the Carousel family gathered around the TV to watch the historic moon landing. Next, you’ll visit Halloween in 1985, where Sarah introduces the latest appliances in their home. After that, the family celebrates New Year’s Eve in 1999 as they get ready to welcome the new millennium. The show wraps up with a look at a possible future, giving you a glimpse of where technology might take us.

The Carousel of Progress is currently closed and will reopen with its update in late spring 2027.

Piston Peak

Piston Peak was first announced at D23 in 2024, and this year we got a sneak peek at the two new attractions coming to the land!

Cars Ridge Run Rally

We already knew that one of the attractions for Piston Peak would be a rally race ride, but now we have an official name: Cars Ridge Run Rally!

The goal is to set the fastest lap as you race through the rugged landscapes of America’s national parks. You’ll climb up snowy Piston Peak, speed over camelback humps, and loop around the Old Tankfull geyser before crossing the finish line, where you’ll find Lightning McQueen and Mater commentating on your race.

Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along

The second attraction is Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along. Miss Fritter, the Diva of Demolition, is inviting guests to join her for a demolition derby of their own.

From the concept art, the ride looks similar to Cars Quatre Roues Rallye (Cars Four Wheels Rally) at Disneyland Paris.

Villians Land

Since its announcement, Villains Land has been one of the most anticipated additions to Disney World. News about the new land has been scarce, but at D23, Disney finally shared some exciting updates.

The first update is the official name: Villains Land. While it might seem a bit straightforward, Disney explained that many areas of the park include ‘land’ in their names, so it made sense to continue that tradition.

So, what’s the story behind Villains Land? As you explore Magic Kingdom, you wander off the safe path and find yourself deep in the forest.

In this forest, you discover a wishing well that has been used by someone with evil intentions. The wish was so dark that it broke the well, and now poisoned magic has spread throughout the forest.

A forest corrupted by evil is bound to attract attention, and one by one, Disney’s most iconic villains arrive to claim the forest as their own.

Each villain will have their own lair designed to match their personality, including favorites like Cruella, Dr. Facilier, and the Evil Queen.

We also got our first look at the two attractions coming to Villains Land.

Maleficent Coaster

The first attraction announced is an exciting new roller coaster, where you’ll come face-to-face with the Mistress of All Evil as you race through enchanted briars and around her mountaintop fortress.

Although they haven’t announced an official name for the attraction, Imagineers have teased that the coaster will include features never before seen in similar attractions.

Mirror Realm Dark Ride

The second attraction is an immersive dark ride concealed within the catacombs beneath the Evil Queen’s palace.

Here, you’ll encounter the Magic Mirror, who transports you to his mystical Mirror Realm, allowing you to see the world from the other side. The Magic Mirror conjures some iconic Disney villains, brought to life through a blend of special effects and physical set pieces.

While the official lineup of villains has yet to be confirmed, the concept art shows Cruella, Jafar, Dr. Facilier, Scar, and Ursula.
