Piston Peak: Everything We Know About Magic Kingdom’s ‘Cars’ Land

Lightning McQueen and his friends are racing into Magic Kingdom! This new land, to be called Piston Peaks, will be part of Frontierland.

Disney has not released a timeline for when work will start on the project, so it’s still unknown when the new area will be completed.

Imagine an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers and impressive geysers. While fictional, Piston Peak is inspired by the Rocky Mountain area and the history and iconic sights of the American Frontier and its national parks.   – Disney

Location

Piston Peaks National Park will be located in Frontierland.

The new area will be replacing Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America, so we’re losing these classic attractions as well as the Liberty Square Riverboat, but you’ll still be able to experience these attractions until July 7, 2025.

When the news first broke about a Cars area coming to Frontierland, a lot of people were worried that it wouldn’t fit into the area’s theme. However, Disney has tried to quash these concerns with the statement below.

From the outside, trees will provide a natural barrier between the off-road rally and other parts of Frontierland and Liberty Square. Rugged mountains with dramatic peaks will be nestled along a calming waterway across from Grizzly Hall and soaring geysers from the famed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will stretch into the trails of our off-road rally.  – Disney

It seems Disney is very conscious about making Piston Peaks fit into the theme of Frontierland. They’re adding new mountains and geysers to blend in with Big Thunder Mountain, and I’m excited to see how they pull it off!

Layout

The concept art below gives us a possible glimpse of the new land, but I would also take it with a pinch of salt because it seems like it’s just a fun way to show the land in the style of a National Park map.

We don’t actually see any of the new attractions on the map, but if we compare it to the first concept art released, then we have an idea of where the rally car attraction could be.

Attractions

Piston Peaks will contain two new attractions. The first will be a thrilling off-road rally race through the mountains.

Disney are working on a new type of ride vehicle for the attraction that emulates what it’s really like to ride over different terrains like rocky mountains to give you the real rally experience.

Each of the vehicles will have its own personality as well as a name and number.

We can see in the concept art the rally cars racing down mountain paths and splashing through water in what looks like a trackless ride, however, it is expected to be on a track.

The second attraction is still a mystery, but it is said to be a family-friendly ride. Hopefully, we’ll get more information about this attraction soon!

Dining & Shopping

Disney has not revealed whether Piston Peaks will have a restaurant or shops just yet, but we’ll update you once we know more.
