Things You Should Never Do At Disney World
There are so many great tips and tricks out there for making the most of your time at Disney World, but what about the things you shouldn’t do?
I’ve made a list of the things you definitely want to avoid doing while at the parks to make sure everyone has a magical time, and so you don’t get in any trouble!
Bring Balloons to Animal Kingdom
Balloons are not allowed in Animal Kingdom, so it’s best to leave them at home.
The ban is to keep the animals safe and stop stray balloons from ending up in any exhibits.
But don’t worry if you’re park hopping or accidentally bring one. Animal Kingdom has a balloon day care where your balloon will be well cared for while you explore the park (I’m not kidding!).
Balloons are also prohibited at the water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports, or Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Pack a Selfie Stick
The Disney parks have a list of prohibited items that you cannot bring into the park, which includes items like selfie sticks and large strollers.
Before entering the park, your bags will be checked to ensure you are not carrying any of these prohibited items, so leave them behind!
You can check the list of prohibited items here.
Ignore the Height Requirements
Height requirements are in place to keep kids safe, so don’t try to bend the rules!
If your child is close to the height limit, cast members will measure them a few times while you wait in line, including right before you board the ride.
The final measurement will be the one that counts, so keep in mind that your child could potentially be turned away after waiting.
Line Jump
Nobody likes a queue jumper! It’s rude and unfair to your fellow guests – don’t be that person (or group).
Using someone as a placeholder to let your family or friends join later is not okay and will not be well-received by those waiting in line.
Smoke in the Parks
Disney World is a smoke-free zone!
If you do need to smoke, there are designated smoking areas but they are located outside of the park entrances.
Vaping is also not allowed in the parks.
Be Rude to Cast Members
The cast members work hard to make sure your day at the park is as magical as possible.
Be kind! Treat cast members with respect and always be polite. A simple thank you and a smile can go a long way!
If you have a positive experience with a cast member, take the time to leave a cast compliment on the My Disney Experience App and brighten their day!
“When there is kindness, there is goodness. When there is goodness, there is magic.”
Cinderella
This goes for other guests in the park too. Be aware of those around you and be kind to one another – keep the magic in the parks alive!
Wear a Character Costume in the Parks
Put the Snow White costume away! If you’re 14 or older, you can’t wear costumes in Disney parks.
This rule is in place to keep a clear distinction between park guests and official Disney characters, preventing any potential confusion or mix-ups.
Basically, it stops guests from being mistaken for the Disney characters wandering the park.
However, there is one exception to the rule. During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, all guests (no age limits!) are permitted to dress up as their favorite Disney characters!
This rule has also led to guests getting creative through Disneybounding!
What is Disneybounding, you ask? Disneybounding is a fun way to dress up as a character using everyday clothing. Simply put together an outfit to embody or evoke the look of your chosen Disney character!
Underestimate the Weather
Florida’s weather is hot and humid, especially in the summer.
Be prepared! Don’t let the weather ruin your time in the parks, make sure to pack some sunscreen, cooling towels and a misting fan.
And don’t forget to stay hydrated and take plenty of breaks if needed!
Stop in the Middle of a Walkway
If you need to take a break or stop for anything, move over to the side of the walkway.
We know how busy Disney can get, and stepping aside, especially if you’re part of a large group, keeps the walkway clear for other guests!
Use Flash on Your Phone
Using flash on your phone or camera while on rides, especially dark ones, can spoil the experience for everyone.
Dark rides are designed to be just that – dark! When you use flash photography or video, it can ruin the magic and special effects that the Imagineers put so much effort into creating.
You might find that a fellow guest or cast member will ask you to turn it off as you are likely to annoy other guests with the bright light.
Plus, your photos and videos might not turn out as great as you’d hoped with flash anyway!
Talk Loudly
Immerse yourself in the magic of the attraction!
Nobody wants to listen to you book reservations while on a Kilimanjaro Safari or discuss your evening plans around Pirates of the Caribbean.
Wear Brand New Shoes
Be prepared for plenty of walking! Disney World isn’t the time to break in new shoes, so make sure your shoes are comfortable before your trip!
The right shoes will make your day much more enjoyable and help you avoid sore feet and blisters.
Run in the Park
You arrive at the park bright and early for rope drop, and as the gates open, you walk (powerwalk?) to your favorite ride!
That’s because running is not allowed in the Disney World parks.
As you might have guessed, this rule is in place for safety reasons; we’ve all seen The Lion King enough to know how stampedes work out.
Film the Fireworks
The fireworks at Magic Kingdom are simply magical!
If you’re excited to film the show, please avoid holding large phones or iPads above your head! You’re likely to block the view of those behind you, and it’s such an important part of the Disney experience!
Everyone wants to enjoy the performance, and there are plenty of videos you can watch online to relive the magic!
