Lilly Gorill-ie: Disney World Copycat Mocktail

A fun way to enjoy a touch of Disney magic at home is by recreating some Disney World recipes!

After making the Antidote from Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, I was inspired to try another simple mocktail—the adorably named Lilly Gorill-ie from Animal Kingdom.

This fruity and easy-to-make copycat recipe is full of strawberry flavor and fizz and is a great way to bring a taste of Animal Kingdom to your day!

Lilly Gorill-ie is available at the Nomad Lounge in Animal Kingdom.

This cozy spot, connected to the Tiffins restaurant on Discovery Island, has a covered patio with views of the Discovery River.

It’s one of my favorite spots to take a break and enjoy a Lilly Gorill-ie!

Why is it called Lilly Gorill-ie?

Lilly Gorill-ie was inspired by Lilly, a western lowland gorilla born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2010 with a unique story!

Lilly was unusually small for her age, weighing less than half of what a typical gorilla of her age should weigh.

Animal keepers also noticed that Lilly had trouble nursing and gripping objects, and her mother, Kashata, was caring for her longer than is usual for gorillas.

In response, Disney’s animal care team implemented the same occupational therapy techniques used with human children.

It was a success, and today, Lilly is 15 years old and still lives at the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail in Animal Kingdom!

Alecia Lilly

I think it’s also important to mention Alecia Lilly and her work here too!

Alecia Lilly, after whom the gorilla was named, was a primatologist and conservationist who served as the vice president of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.

Dr. Lilly, along with members of the Disney team, worked to establish the Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education Center (GRACE) in Congo.

The facility is dedicated to rehabilitating orphaned gorillas that have been rescued from poachers with the ultimate goal of reintroducing them into the wild. Before GRACE, there was no facility in eastern Africa for rescued gorillas.
