Jack Skellington Pumpkin: Nightmare Before Christmas

It’s that time of year to break out the pumpkin-carving tools, but why settle for a plain, old jack-o’-lantern when you can summon the Pumpkin King himself? Not only is this pumpkin white, but no carving is involved!

It’s a super simple design, and Jack Skellington’s iconic grin and hollow eyes make him easily recognisable. It’s the perfect pumpkin if you’re looking for something a little different this Halloween!

The white pumpkin provides the perfect base for a Jack Skellington skull, and the black marker or paint stands out more than your average carving.

So let’s get ready to add a bit of Disney magic to Halloween with our Jack Skellington pumpkin!

What You’ll Need

  • A white pumpkin
  • Jack Skellington pumpkin template*
  • Paper/card
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Black Sharpie/marker

Optional:

  • Black acrylic paint
  • LED candles or lights
  • Carving tools

*Many templates are available online, but the Disney website provides one here. You could also draw your own!

How to make your Jack Skellington pumpkin

  1. Using your carving tool, cut out the pumpkin lid. Remove the seeds and scoop out the insides until no seeds or stringy bits remain. (This step is optional and only required if you plan to fill your pumpkin with lights!)
  2. Clean and prep your pumpkin to remove any dirt or debris. It’s a good idea to rinse it down and give it a gentle scrub.
  3. Download, print and cut out the Jack Skellington template.
  4. Tape the template in place, and using a marker, trace around the template.
  5. Remove the template and fill in the outline with your marker or black acrylic paint.
  6. Place the LED candle or lights inside. You can skip this part if you prefer to display the pumpkin without candles since there are no holes for the light to shine through. If you do use lights, leave the lid off the top so your pumpkin will still light up!
  7. Show off your Jack Skellington pumpkin!

One of the reasons I love this pumpkin is because it really stands out against the usual jack-o’-lanterns you normally see. And if you’re not a fan of carving pumpkins or want something less messy, you can simply paint the design straight onto the pumpkin!

If you’ve carved your own Disney pumpkin, don’t forget to share your photos with us on Instagram! We’d love to see them!
