How to Make Snowflake Pretzels

  1. Line baking trays with parchment paper.
  2. Take four pretzel sticks and break them in half.
  3. Arrange four pretzel sticks in a cross shape on the parchment paper with the broken ends meeting in the middle.
  4. Add the other four sticks to make a snowflake shape. Make sure the ends are close enough to create a small circle in the centre of your snowflake.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 to make the required number of snowflake bases.
  6. Melt the white chocolate and add to a piping bag. Cut a small tip of around 2-3mm.
  7. Start in the centre of the pretzels and add a generous amount of chocolate to hold your pretzels together. Then spiral around to the edge to make your snowflake.
  8. Add blue sprinkles immediately. Repeat for all snowflakes.
  9. Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to set. Once the chocolate is set and is easily removed from the parchment paper, serve and enjoy!

Tips for melting chocolate:
1. Break the chocolate bar into similar-sized pieces so it melts evenly.
2. Microwave for 20 seconds, then check on the chocolate and stir. Place back in the microwave and check every 5 seconds to ensure it doesn’t burn.
3. Alternatively you can melt your chocolate in a heat-proof bowl over a pan of hot water. Make sure your bowl does not touch the water to avoid seizing.

Top Tips For Snowflake Pretzels

  • If you don’t have piping bags, you can use a ziplock/food bag instead.
  • Make sure the tip of your piping bag isn’t too small as the chocolate might break once it’s set.
  • A non-stick surface is important! Using parchment/baking paper means the chocolate won’t stick to the surface.
  • Add the sprinkles quickly so they’ll stick to the melted chocolate.
  • The snowflakes can be very fragile, so the chocolate may break easily. Place the snowflakes in a freezer for 30 minutes to make them sturdy.
  • The pretzels go soft quickly. Store them in an air-tight container as soon as they’re set.
  • Have fun! Working with melted chocolate can get a little messy, especially with kids! But the pretzels taste great anyway!

Other Pretzel Ideas

  1. Add a teaspoon of coconut oil to the melted chocolate to make it shiny.
  2. Add snowflake sprinkles to add an extra dash of snow!
  3. Use blue candy melts instead of white chocolate. You could even use a mix of both!
  4. Sprinkle with blue sugar or edible glitter and make your snowflakes sparkle.
  5. Use this recipe to make spiderwebs instead of snowflakes! Add Halloween sprinkles or use icing to make a little spider.
